ABOUT

Sheila originally trained in contemporary dance, and worked as a choreographer, dancer and teacher for several years before making the crossover into Live Art/Performance.

So far her solo practice stems from her own experience of being mixed heritage (Indian/English) and addresses ideas that emerge from notions of ‘mixing’ or being mixed. She is interested in hybridity, ‘crossings’, blood, skins, skinning, carefully controlled experiments, well-oiled machinery, colour, genetics, joining and love. Her work often includes 'live-ness' or engagement with an audience, and usually employs materials and objects in unfamiliar ways (often leaving a carefully choreographed strategic mess behind).

Recently she has shown work at venues and festivals across Europe including Belluard Bollwerk International in Switzerland, Fierce Festival in Birmingham, NRLA in Glasgow, Trouble Festival #4 in Brussels, EPAF  in Poland, What If? festival and BAC in London.

Sheila also works collaboratively and is a core company member of Pacitti Company and a Blast Theory associate artist. She has toured and performed nationally and internationally for both companies and regularly leads artists’ workshops for Pacitti Company in the UK, and abroad. She also teaches in Academic contexts.
